Carroll County Jail Release Paths
Carroll County Jail is the county detention facility that answers the ordinary local release question. A pretrial person may leave after posting bond, receiving recognizance, dismissal, or another court-authorized order. Someone serving a local sentence may complete the term or receive enough jail-time credit to satisfy it. Each event ends county physical custody only when the jail processes the exit.
Other exits are transfers. A felony sentence may send someone to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. A court may order placement in a community-based correctional facility or treatment program. Another county, a federal agency, or immigration authority may receive custody. A transfer does not place the person back in the community. Escape and death also end a custody episode but must be recorded by their exact terms, never described as routine release.
The sheriff log supplies the event and time. The court docket supplies the order and case context. If the two records appear inconsistent, use the newest authoritative custody record as the location lead and ask the offices to reconcile the difference.
Confirm a Carroll Jail Release
The sheriff does not publish an identified current roster, released tab, recent-release archive, or mobile app. Direct contact and a focused request therefore lead the process. The broader Carroll County released inmate search can help when the custodian is uncertain.
- Call the jail at 330-627-2170. Provide a full name and another identifier, then ask whether the person is held now.
- If custody ended, ask whether the record says release or transfer. Request the destination when it is maintained and public.
- Seek the existing booking sheet and custody/release log through the sheriff's public-records page.
- Check Municipal Court for lower-level bond, dismissal, sentence, or probation entries. Use Common Pleas for felony commitment, judicial release, or community control.
- Follow a transfer to the named custodian. Do not stop when Carroll County Jail custody ends.
A phone answer is useful when timing matters, but a written log gives a stable release date, time, and disposition. Ohio VINE may supply a status cross-check if a live Carroll record appears. Ohio warns that VINE should not be the only source.
Carroll County Jail Contact
The jail and sheriff share the same official street location, but their phone routes serve different needs. Continuous jail operation does not mean public-record processing occurs at all hours.
43 Second Street SE
Carrollton, OH 44615
Jail: 330-627-2170
Sheriff: 330-627-2141
Records processing: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., time permitting
The records office notifies the requester when processing is complete and provides a ten-day pickup window. Mailing is available with a self-addressed stamped envelope. Identify an existing record rather than asking staff to determine motives or create a new narrative.
Carroll County Jail Profile
The official jail page describes a full-service jail operating continuously for people connected with Juvenile Court, Municipal Court, and Common Pleas Court. Its public web presence is informational, not a live database.
The source also lists one receiving cell and one padded cell. These numbers describe the physical facility, not the current population or a release count. The mix of three courts means jurisdiction must be sorted before interpreting a case. A felony may begin in Municipal Court and later be bound over to Common Pleas.
The Municipal Court portal states that online entries lag a filing or judicial action by at least 24 hours and may take longer. A missing new order should lead to a clerk request, not a claim that no release occurred.
Carroll Jail Release Record Fields
A booking sheet documents intake. A custody/release log documents the exit. A court docket records judicial action. Ask for the records that answer each part of the question, using the booking number or case number when known.
| Field | Use |
|---|---|
| Name and birth date or age | Separates people with similar names. |
| Booking number and admission date | Identifies one stay. |
| Case number and arresting agency | Connects custody with the court matter. |
| Actual release date and time | Shows when Carroll custody ended. |
| Disposition or release code | May identify bond, time served, or another exit. |
| Receiving agency | Shows that custody continued through transfer. |
This field list is a request inventory, not a claim that every item appears under that exact label. Protected content may be redacted. Ask for all reasonably separable public portions if part of a record is withheld.
Carroll Jail Court Verification
Use Municipal Court record search for its criminal and traffic jurisdiction. Bond, recognizance, dismissal, plea, sentence, jail-time credit, and probation entries may explain why a person was expected to leave. An order is not the same as the jail's processed exit, especially when another hold applies.
Felony records belong with the Common Pleas Clerk at 119 South Lisbon Street, Suite 401, Carrollton. Request the applicable sentencing, credit, commitment, judicial-release, community-control, or termination entry. If a case began in Municipal Court before bind-over, both dockets can matter.
Phrase the findings with care. The court ordered an act. The jail released or transferred the person at a recorded time. Keeping those statements separate prevents a docket date from being reported as an actual release timestamp.
Carroll Jail Property at Release
Carroll County Jail publishes unusually concrete exit logistics. Booked property is inventoried, returned at release, and signed for. Property left after release is held for 30 days and then disposed of under jail rules. Before exit, a confined person may give property to family or friends through a form signed by both the confined person and recipient.
The official material does not publish a standard release hour, exit door, or weekend procedure. Ask the jail about those practical details. A property return supports the exit process, but it does not replace the custody log or prove the legal reason for release.
Note: A property pickup by someone else may occur before release and should not be treated as proof that custody ended.
Carroll Jail Funds and Work Release
The official jail page says a remaining commissary or trust balance is ordinarily issued on a prepaid debit card at release. Checks are reserved for certain special circumstances. A question about the amount or delivery should go to the jail because the balance is an account matter, not part of a public release list.
Carroll County work release has a different meaning. Participation requires an order from the judge with jurisdiction and carries a $5-per-day administrative charge. The participant remains confined and must follow jail rules while temporarily authorized to leave for work. Work release is not final discharge from custody and must not be counted as an ordinary released-inmate event.
Transfers from Carroll County Jail
When a Carroll felony leads to state prison, use ODRC Offender Search after transfer. Search by name or ODRC number, verify identity, and read the exact status and date fields. An ODRC result marked incarcerated means the person remains in state custody even though the county jail no longer holds them. Released with APA supervision means prison confinement ended while state supervision continues.
BOP tools apply only to federal prison custody. ICE tools apply only to immigration custody. A US Marshals detainee may be housed by contract without a public historical locator. The arrest location does not decide which database owns the later record. The transfer entry does.
EOCC is another distinct path. It is a secure community-based correctional facility, not Carroll County Jail and not an ODRC prison. A person who leaves EOCC may continue under Common Pleas community control.
